Practical help

We offer our guests a sit-down meal with hot, freshly cooked food, tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh fruit. Our guests are welcome to stay and chat with us after the meal.

Being faithful

  • We offer prayer to those who ask
  • We say ‘grace’ at the start of the meal
  • We give a 5 minute, Christian-based talk during the evening.

Our ethos is guided by…

‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew: chapter 25, verses 38 to 40

Food and money

Sunday Suppers relies on funding from the Crisis & Resilience fund (Portsmouth city council), St Simon's Church council, food and money donations, and fundraising efforts.

We are particularly grateful for the grant we receive from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation.

Volunteering

Our volunteers are mostly but not exclusively from St Simon’s church, and most but not all are Christians. We are happy to include non-Christians who share our values. Volunteering involves tasks such as preparing and serving food, sitting with guests to chat and to listen.
